Self Lender is helping thousands of people begin their financial journey with a credit builder account. We understand that building a financial foundation is a daunting task for most people, so we’re dedicated to building a product that will help our customers move two steps in the right direction.
We believe strongly that a customer’s success is tied to a variety of factors beyond just a financial product. We treat our customers the way we would like to be treated — and we’re striving for a fanatical customer experience through honesty, great technology, and a great team dedicated to help you succeed.
We are hardworking, passionate, financial geeks. Building credit and building savings used to be mutually exclusive goals. With Self Lender, we’ve created a responsible way for people to build credit and savings at the same time.
A Self Lender credit builder account isn’t a loan in the typical sense. Usually when you take out a loan you get the funds, spend them and then repay the loan. Credit builder accounts — also called savings-secured installment loans — are secured by virtue of how they’re set up. The entire value of the loan is in a certificate of deposit (CD), which can be taken by the lender if you default.
Through Self Lender you can take a loan out for $550, $1,100 or $2,200 from Austin Capital Bank. The funds from the loan are then held in a CD that earns 0.10% APY for 12 months.
What’s probably best about this loan is that you don’t have to meet a minimum credit score requirement. The loan being completely secured greatly reduces any risk to the lender, thus relieving some of the requirements other providers or loan types carry.
Many customers join Self Lender in under five minutes. Here’s what you need to start your credit building journey:
A bank account or debit card or prepaid card
Social security number (SSN)
Be a valid permanent U.S. resident with a U.S. physical residence
At least 18 years of age
Min Loan Amount: $550
MAx Loan Amount: $2200

You have exactly one month from the start date of your credit builder account to make your first scheduled payment. Your payment due dates can be found on your Self Lender dashboard, or by selecting “Payments” in the top navigation. For example, if you opened your credit builder account today, then your first credit builder account payment would be due exactly one month from today.
